The Kentucky Retail Federation was founded seven decades ago to advocate before the government of Kentucky on behalf of its member companies and organizations.
Today, advocacy before state government remains the KRF’s top priority and our government affairs staff reflects that dedication. KRF offers members a comprehensive approach to governmental affairs with 
emphasis on the interim activity such as committee monitoring, regulatory intervention, relationship building and grassroots development as well as issues management and, of course, direct lobbying during the legislative session. Our governmental affairs staff advocates on behalf of our members on legislation and public policy that directly impacts retailers and supports legislation and public policy that strengthens the state’s business climate. The KRF maintains an office just two blocks from the historic Kentucky State Capitol Building, offering quick access to the state’s top decision-makers and policy-setters.
The Federation's team of lobbyists is well known and well respected in Frankfort. With almost a century of combined experience, our staff effectively communicates the retail industry's concerns and positions on public policy issues to legislators and other decision-makers.
LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS
KRF's long involvement in the legislative process has raised greater awareness of the retail industry. The Federation’s office is strategically located near the historic Kentucky State Capitol Building and within minutes of every state government building in Frankfort, allowing our staff to be a constant presence for both lawmakers and regulators. The Governmental Affairs staff continues to focus on maintaining a strong grassroots network of members and affiliates.
Contacts by KRF members with individual legislators were responsible for many of the Federation’s successes during past sessions. Through the ongoing efforts of the Federation and the involvement of individual members, the industry's voice will build on its legacy during future legislative sessions.
A powerful component of the Kentucky Retail Federation’s Government Affairs is The Retail Record, an electronic publication provided to KRF members during legislative sessions. The Retail Record is the official resource for up to date and accurate coverage of retail issues being considered by the Kentucky General Assembly. In addition, The Kentucky Retailer also includes information about legislative activities. Both The Retail Record and The Kentucky Retailer are available as a Member Benefit to KRF members.
COMPLIANCE AND REGULATORY AFFAIRS
Governmental Affairs doesn’t stop with the legislative branch. Keeping up with government regulations is not only an important government affairs function, but also an essential member service. Kentucky state government contains a myriad of agencies that promulgate rules and regulations affecting retailers. 
KRF staff members possess invaluable experience in compliance and regulatory education, the kind of experience that comes from years of working with all levels of state government.
Our staff is dedicated to representing the retail industry when rules and regulations are created. We also serve as a resource for members on regulatory matters and deliver consistent, up to date information and research on compliance issues that retailers can use to ensure their business is complying. The KRF is available to assist any association member with concerns or questions regarding regulatory matters.
